According to the HSE, musculo-skeletal disorders are by far the most common work related illness. It’s estimated that each year one million people in Great Britain suffer a work-related musculo-skeletal injury across all industries, around half due to lower back pain.
This module looks at legislation and employer/employee responsibilities; it shows the user how to plan and assess the lift taking into account all appropriate considerations; it illustrates the correct lifting procedure and suggests that this us practically assessed by a supervisor in the workplace. The module shows alternative ways of moving loads and how to move big loads by getting a team of people together.
A handout to takeaway gives a reminder of the stage of manual lifting as well as the correct positioning and posture in preparing, during and after the lift.
A validation reviews each section, should the user get a question wrong they get an opportunity to return to the appropriate learning section for review.
