Like all other amino acids cysteine's most important function is to contribute to the structure of proteins. One such protein that cysteine helps to form the structure of is keratin, which is found in hair, skin and nails. It also acts as a detoxifier and plays a role in energy metabolism and fatty acid synthesis. This L-Cysteine product is presented in its free-form for maximum absorption.
L-cysteine is considered a non-essential amino acid, meaning that normally sufficient amounts of this amino acid are formed from the dietary essential amino acid L-methionine and the nonessential amino acid L-serine via a transsulfuration reaction. However L-cysteine is a conditionally essential amino acid under certain circumstances, for example preterm infants.
It has been claimed that L-cysteine has anti-inflammatory properties, can protect against various toxins and that it might be helpful in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Research to date has only been in animal models therefore more research will have to be done before L-cysteine can be indicated for any of these conditions.
Dosage:
1 to 3 capsules daily with water or fruit juice. An amino acid is best taken half an hour before any meal or at bedtime.

Do not take if pregnant or breast feeding.
